Cahuita National Park Hike

From USD $75.00
  • Duration: 2 Hours (approx.)
  • Product code: PWT41G

Founded in 1970 to protect the country’s most important coral reef system, the park is famous for its **white-sand beaches, turquoise Caribbean waters, and vibrant tropical rainforest** teeming with wildlife.

Your adventure begins with **hotel pickup** and a short, scenic drive to **Cahuita**, a small town with deep cultural roots and a relaxed Afro-Caribbean vibe. The tour starts at the **Kelly Creek ranger station**, the entrance closest to town. From here, your **naturalist guide** will lead you on an easy 2.5 km hike along a trail that winds between the coastal forest and the sea. Along the way, you may spot **white-faced monkeys, sloths, iguanas, snakes, raccoons**, and a variety of tropical birds and butterflies.

But Cahuita is more than just a paradise of natural beauty—it’s a place with a powerful **Afro-Caribbean history**. The local community traces its roots back to the descendants of Afro-Caribbean settlers and shipwreck survivors. One particularly significant part of this history is tied to a **19th-century shipwreck**, believed to have carried enslaved Africans. Survivors of this wreck are thought to be among the first to settle the area, helping to form the vibrant, resilient Afro-Caribbean culture that still defines Cahuita today.

After the hike, you’ll return to Cahuita town, where you'll enjoy a **Caribbean-style lunch**, giving you a chance to experience the region's rich culinary and cultural traditions. Expect warm hospitality, flavorful local dishes, and a deeper connection to the community and land.
